Braces for Teens

(This phase is also know as Phase II)

Teens are often excited to get braces because it has become quite fashionable to wear braces as a teenager.

Options
Braces are available in different colors and styles. Different materials are used, such as metal or ceramic.

Length of Treatment
The length of treatment usually depends on the complexity of the treatment as well as the individual variation of how each person’s teeth respond to the treatment.

Treatment Ages
The ages between 11 and 15 are the most common for orthodontic treatment, and for good reasons. By 12, most if not all of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites (malocclusions) can easily be detected. These problems hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.  At this age children are growing rapidly, and Dr. DuClos can usually take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly.
