Early Treatment

(This phase is also know as Phase I)

Dr. DuClos understands parents concern for early orthodontic treatment.  The earlier you have your child evaluated may be better than waiting till later. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should be evaluated by the age of seven. By identifying and intercepting growth problems at an early age, Dr. DuClos can guide the growth of the jaw and incoming permanent teeth.  Early guidance my help prevent bigger and more costly problems down the road.

The Benefits of Early Treatment Can:

  • Regulate the width and length of the upper and lower dental arches
  • Gain space for permanent teeth
  • Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions
  • Reduce the possibility of impacted permanent teeth
  • Correct thumb-sucking
  • Eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems

During this initial exam Dr. DuClos will first determine if there are any problems that will need to be addressed, such as potential crowding, open bite, overbite or possible missing permanent.  It is possible that immediate treatment will not be necessary or even at all.
